IMESD Virtual Learning Academy to span the state

PENDLETON – The InterMountain Education Service District (IMESD) is expanding to include all K-12 school districts in the state of Oregon. The InterMountain Virtual Learning Academy (IMVLA) was only available to its 17 Eastern Oregon districts. It offers both full-time and hybrid options.
The expansion is due to a growing need for virtual learning options statewide. It is particularly useful to rural districts where students may have limited access to specialized coursework, advanced academics, and early college dual-credit opportunities.
The school districts can enroll students in courses for $350 a semester. The students remain enrolled in their home districts and receive in-house support including special education, English learner support, and counseling. They also remain connected to their home districts for sports, activities, and extracurricular participation.
Their home school districts retain full funding for students of the virtual learning academy. IMVLA bills districts directly for program participation.
“What began as a regional program is now growing to serve students across Oregon,” IMVLA Director Lena Wheeling said. “We’re proud to partner with schools across the state to expand learning opportunities while keeping students connected to their local schools, teachers and communities. At IMVLA our mission is simple: provide more choices for students while strengthening the local connections that help every learner feel supported, engaged, and successful.”
