PENDLETON – The Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) is crowded. After all, it is puppy and kitten season. In addition, the shelter has a host of adult dogs and cats looking for forever homes.
PAWS Board of Directors Vice President Shaindel Beers says finding homes for the babies is a lot easier than finding homes for the older animals. That’s why PAWS is teaming with BISSELL Pet Foundation to empty the shelters.
“The adoption fees are $70 for adult dogs and $35 for adult cats, and so that does help us adopt out those adult animals,” Beers said.
She pointed out the animals are all spayed or neutered and microchipped.
Empty the Shelters lasts until July 26. People can window shop to see some of the pets that are available at Adoption – PAWS: Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter.
Empty the Shelters is the largest funded adoption event in the nation and has helped more than 96,000 pets find homes since 2016.
“PAWS is always excited to participate in Empty the Shelters,” Beers said. “We love seeing our shelter animals go to loving homes and we appreciate BISSELL’s help during these unprecedented times.”
It is estimated that 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized every year, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
