Union County approves over 228k in Title III and transient tax grant applications

UNION COUNTY – During a regular meeting on Wednesday, June 25, the Union County Board of Commissioners officially approved Fourteen separate grant applications, split between Title III funding and transient room tax funding, totaling $228,087 dollars.

All seven Title III grants, totaling $186,357, were requested by Union County Emergency Services, four for Union County Search and Rescue, and three for Emergency Services generally. These are:

  • EM Computers: $8,461
  • SAR PU Truck: $59,980
  • SAR Rescue Boat: $28,177
  • Snowmobile Trailer: $12,150
  • SAR Radios: $59,790
  • $EOC Trailer: $16,699
  • EM Pickup Tires: $1,100

Transient room tax grants totaled $41,730 dollars (out of an available pool of $51,000 dollars) and were requested by seven different arts and commerce organizations. These include:

  • Eastern Oregon Film Festival: Bad Day for Bigfoot -$18,000
  • Wallowa Mountain Hells Canyon Trails Association: $WMHCTA 2026 Union County Trails Projects – $5,000
  • Friends of the Opera House: Annual Advertising Budget – $5,495
  • Friends of La Grande Main Street: Crazy Days and the La Grande Classic Car Show – 3,000-$4,000
  • Elgin EDGE/Elgin Chamber of Commerce: Elgin Holiday Light Project – $2,235
  • Union County Chamber of Commerce: Thunder at the Peak – $3,500
  • Union County Museum Society: 2026 Event Promotions – $3,500
