BAKER CITY — A man was lodged in the Baker County Jail after he fled police and was arrested a week later.
According to police reports, on June 16th, 2026, a Baker City Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Sammy Garcia Jr., 41, of Baker City, who was known by the officer to hold detainers to go to jail. Garcia reportedly fled the stop on 9th Street at a high rate of speed. The officer eventually lost visual of the suspect and canceled the pursuit.
An arrest warrant was obtained and on June 23rd, 2026, Sammy Garcia Jr. was arrested at a residence on Elm Street in Baker City and transported to jail. He is being held on charges of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, and a Post Prison Parole Violation. His bail is set at $20,000.
