DAYTON, Washington — A wildfire near Highway 12 and Tucannon Road, near Dayton, is now 100 percent contained after burning 8,069 acres in Columbia County, officials announced Saturday morning.

The Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team reported that crews finalized mop-up operations and secured a strong perimeter Friday. All state mobilization resources were released as of 8 a.m. Saturday, transferring local control back to Columbia County Fire District No. 3 and Garfield County Fire District No. 1.

The fire, which ignited Tuesday afternoon, caused no injuries and left primary structures undamaged, though a few outbuildings were affected. The cause is undetermined.

With regional winds forecast up to 30 miles per hour, fire officials warned residents that shifting conditions could stir up interior hot spots and produce occasional smoke.
