WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Fire Department has secured a $21,156 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to purchase a new utility terrain vehicle (UTV) for its technical response team, Chief Eric Wood announced.

The specialized off-road vehicle is expected to significantly improve emergency response times and rescue capabilities in rugged or restricted areas throughout the Walla Walla Valley.

Wood stated that the new equipment will allow first responders to navigate challenging environments more safely and reach patients more quickly during critical operations.

“Your support will directly enhance our ability to provide life-saving services throughout the Walla Walla Valley,” Wood said in a statement thanking the foundation. “This equipment will help our team reach patients more quickly and safely in challenging environments, ultimately strengthening our mission to protect the lives and well-being of our community.”

The Wildhorse Foundation, which is funded by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, frequently awards grants to support public safety, public health, and community resilience projects in the region.
