Nyssa American Legion to host Flag Day commemoration, retirement ceremonies

NYSSA — Flag Day is June 14th, 2026, and the American Legion Post 79 in Nyssa will be doing a special flag commemoration. Post 79 states, “Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States on June 14, 1777…it is a day to celebrate our nation’s history, our values, and the enduring symbol of freedom, unity, and pride that our flag represents.”
The Flag Raising Ceremony will be held at the Nyssa Fire Department beginning at 1:00 p.m. Following the flag raising, Post 79 will hold a special Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Nyssa American Legion Hall. The Legion invites community members to, “Please bring any worn American flags for proper retirement.”
