BAKER CITY – A 91-year-old man has died as the result of a crash that occurred Saturday Baker City. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office has issued preliminary information on the incident. Read what was released to our newsroom below:

Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an accident on Pocahontas Road at approximately 3:40 p.m. on May 29th. BCSO deputies, fire and medics responded to the scene.
Prior to law enforcement arrival, Baker Rural Fire Chief Sean Lee was on scene and pulled the driver, identified as Ronald Earle Johnson (91 yoa) of Baker City, from the 2018 Toyota 4Runner. Chief Lee began performing life-saving measures. Pioneer Ambulance transported Johnson to St. Alphonsus in Baker City; he was later transferred to a hospital out of the area. It was relayed to law enforcement that Johnson did not survive his injuries.
During the investigation, it was determined that Johnson was traveling southbound on Pocahontas Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle struck a road sign and went through a fence. Johnson was wearing a seat belt. He was traveling with a canine companion, who survived the crash and was returned to family members.
