HERMISTON – A natural gas leak caused a two-block closure of West Hermiston Avenue on Thursday morning while crews from Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 and Cascade Natural Gas responded.

A photo showed a UCFD No. 1 crew next to a building on the corner of West Hermiston and Southwest Second. Crews were able to quickly stop the leak and began airing out affected buildings.

By 10:48 a.m., UCFD No. 1 reported that they had secured the scene and transferred control to Cascade for further mitigation. All closures and evacuation orders were then lifted, except for the affected building. At that time officials said the source of the leak has still not been found and that no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.

UCFD No. 1 thanked the multiple agencies that assisted in the incident including Hermiston Police, Oregon Department of Transportation, and Oregon State Police as well as Cascade Natural Gas.
