UMATILLA COUNTY – The Oregon Department of Transportation is scheduled to chip seal OR-11 beginning Monday, June 8.
ODOT Public Information Officer Vicki Moles said the precise location is between milepost 4 at OR-331 to the Weston Interchange with OR-204 at milepost 20. Moles adds that striping is planned in July and that all work is scheduled for completion by Aug. 1.
The contractor for the OR-11 chip seal project is Doolittle Construction LLC of Snoqualmie.
While chip seat costs vary, Moles explained the benefits of chip seal consists of embedding rock chips into emulsified oil, then compressing it onto the pavement with several passes of a heavy roller. Compared to an asphalt overlay, it is a lower-cost solution that helps preserve and extend the useful life of the existing highway surface. Highway preservation funds are limited, and chip seal applications allow more pavement miles to be kept in good condition.
