NYSSA — Officials with the Nyssa Fire Department say while the time of year is ideal for burning cheat grass, residents need to use extreme caution when doing so. NFD personnel stated, “…the green cheat grass that still looks green…is now dry enough to be burned.”
Firefighters responded to one incident last Thursday that called for the response from multiple agencies. NFD reports, “Nyssa Fire Volunteers responded to Lytle Blvd and Enterprise Ave for a controlled burn that quickly spread. Nyssa Fire appreciates the swift response from mutual aid partners, including Parma Rural Fire & EMS. Notably, the stuck brush truck was operated by our last year’s Firefighter of the Year. Let us prioritize safety, particularly when winds are strong.”
