Union County approves funding reimbursement for Cove cleanup day, May 16

COVE — Cleaning a house is one thing. Cleaning up an entire town is another, more financially and logistically demanding thing. Thankfully for Cove residents, the county is pitching in again this year. During a recent meeting on Wednesday, May 6, the Union County Board of Commissioners officially approved a 50% reimbursement for the City of Cove’s cleanup day funds.

According to Cove City Recorder Lana Shira, the city annually has a cleanup day budget of around $1,800 dollars for postage, advertising, liability insurance and supplies, with an additional (approximate) $1,400 dollars in dump fees. In prior years, the city has received county approval for a Solid Waste District Reimbursement of 50% on the cleanup fees, ensuring the events continued organization. This year is no different.

During the meeting, commissioners briefly discussed their enthusiasm for Cove and other cities embracing their partnership with the county to support city clean up events. It’s hoped that all cities in the county will eventually take advantage of this opportunity to keep their communities clean each year.

Coves volunteer run city cleanup day is set for this Saturday, May 16.
