Walla Walla County launches free at-home pet microchipping service

WALLA WALLA – Pet owners in Walla Walla County can now have their cats and dogs microchipped for free without leaving their homes, thanks to a new initiative by local law enforcement.
The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday a partnership with the Blue Mountain Humane Society to provide the mobile service at no cost to residents. Under the program, Animal Control Officer Montana Alonso will travel directly to residences to perform the microchipping.
The initiative aims to increase the recovery rate of lost pets within the county. Microchips, which are roughly the size of a grain of rice, are implanted under a pet’s skin and contain a unique identification number that can be scanned by shelters and veterinary clinics.
“These microchips are a great way to help ensure your pet can be returned to you if they get out,” the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Officials are encouraging interested pet owners to take advantage of the door-to-door service by scheduling an appointment. Residents can coordinate a visit by contacting Officer Alonso via email at malonso@wwcowa.gov.
