HUNTINGTON — Travelers can expect ramp closures in May and June at two I-84 ramps as ODOT continues major roadway improvements between Huntington and Ontario. Watch for detours and be sure to plan for additional travel time.

Ramp closure details

The ramps will be closed continuously during the dates listed below:

  • May 4-July 3:ย Westbound Exit 356 on-ramp (from OR 201).
  • June 15-18:ย Westbound Exit 353 off-ramp (to U.S. 30).

Project schedules may change and closures could be extended if needed.

Detours
Detours will be in place and signed during these closures. When following detours, stay on main roads and follow signs. Do not rely on GPS, which may direct you onto closed or unsafe roads that are not viable routes for interstate traffic.

About the project

We are repaving 16 miles of I-84, both eastbound and westbound, and rebuilding the roadway connections near the Olds Ferry Interchange at milepost 356. Crews will also upgrade the weigh-in-motion system at the Farewell Bend Port of Entry to help trucks move through more efficiently.

Additional improvements include:

  • New lights at westbound chain-up areas.
  • New variable message signs.
  • Guardrail upgrades.

This work will extend the life of the highway, reduce maintenance needs, and improve safety for all travelers.

This is a two-year project with a scheduled completion in October 2027.

Visit the project webpage for more information: I-84: Farewell Bend – N. Fork Jacobsen Gulch.

Other traffic impacts

This is a two-year project with a scheduled completion in October 2027.

Drivers can expect reduced speeds and ongoing single-lane and shoulder closures on I-84 in both directions between Huntington and Ontario during construction. Various I-84 ramps will also close temporarily as work progresses. Please slow down in work zones and plan for short delays.
