HERMISTON – The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be lowering speed limits on several sections of Highway 395 this summer. The change is due to a study that found crash rates above average as well as speed limits that did not match up with current traffic.

The areas where speeds will be lowered include:

From Highway 730 in Umatilla to Joy Lane in Hermiston will be reduced to 50 miles per hour

From Joy Lane to 200 feet south of Van Arsdale Lane reduced to 40 mph

From 200 feet south of Van Arsdale Lane to East Oregon Avenue reduced to 30 mph

From East Oregon Avenue to 50 feet south of West Beech Avenue reduced to 25 mph

From 300 feet south of East View Avenue to just south of East Penny reduced to 45 mph

Most of the reductions are by five miles per hour. However, the last one is a 10 miles per hour reduction. The changes have all been approved by ODOT. The speed limit signs will be updated over the summer.
