April 21, 2026 Dear Historic Property Owner; We are reaching out to property owners within the Historic District and those included on the City’s list of historically contributing structures to inform you of a current historic preservation grant opportunity. We understand that building maintenance or repair projects may not have been planned at this time. However, this funding opportunity may provide a valuable incentive to consider completing eligible preservation work now, with the potential to receive reimbursement for a portion of project costs. Enclosed you will find an initial application for project consideration. This first step is intended to gather a general description of your proposed preservation project along with estimated costs. If your project is selected, you will be required to submit a more detailed application packet in accordance with State requirements. Please note that the timeline for submitting the full application will be limited; important dates and deadlines are included in the attached materials. This program offers up to $16,000 in total funding through a 1:1 matching grant for qualifying projects. Eligible work must focus strictly on the preservation of historic structures. Projects involving alteration, modernization, or painting are not eligible under this program. Please be advised: • Work must not begin until formal approval is issued. • All approved work must be completed by June 30, 2027. If you believe your project may qualify, we encourage you to submit an application. Completed applications may be emailed to communitydevelopment@bakercity.gov or mailed/delivered to: Baker City Hall: PO Box 650, Baker City, OR, 97814.
