HERMISTON – There’s still plenty of room to grow in Hermiston. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan turns the spotlight on the Diagonal Road corridor.
He said that in addition to the Hub Apartments bringing 700 units to the area, there is also a manufactured home development as well as a subdivision taking root in that area. Morgan does the math and sees nothing but growth in its future.
“Over the course of a decade, we’ll be adding about 2,000 residents to that corridor,” he said. “That would be like adding all of Athena and Weston just to that section of Hermiston.”
In the 1970s, that property was zoned industrial as it sat on the outskirts of a much smaller Hermiston. Morgan said property owners there were happy to have the zoning changed from industrial to residential in 2018. In addition to the residential zoning, Morgan says the city reserved several acres to zone commercial for what they expect will be neighborhood commercial activities.
