MALHEUR COUNTY — Officials with the Bureau of Land Management report that volunteers cleaned up a recently discovered illegal dump site near Birch Creek Trail in northern Malheur County.
The BLM explains the Birch Creek Oregon Trail Site is a place “…where visitors can hike along the path once traveled by wagons, livestock, and emigrants heading west.”
In March, eight volunteers with the BLM and Oregon-California Trails Association’s Northwest and Idaho chapters worked to haul off trash and restore the trail.
BLM officials stated, “Places like Birch Creek only stay beautiful because of people who care. As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026, stewardship efforts like this help preserve the landscapes that shaped westward expansion and ensure these stories remain visible for future generations.”
The agency extended a “huge thank-you” to volunteers and staff.
