JOHN DAY – Local camel tender Talyn Elliot was on KJDY’s Coffee Time recently. Many may have noticed Hilde (Hill-dee), Talyn’s Bactrian camel has had her calf—a female, white-colored camel named Cora.

Talyn said her birth on March 20th went smoothly:

“When I got up there, Cora’s little feet and nose were just starting to peek out, and it was only 20 minutes, and she was born…I didn’t have to do anything, I just watched…and then as soon as Cora was out, Hilde stood up, she turned around, and she started nuzzling Cora, and singing to her her little camel song. It was adorable.”

Talyn said Cora’s white color comes from her father, a white Bactrian named Morpheus.

Talyn and Hilde have become well-known throughout the John Day area for going on their walks throughout town and its outskirts. Talyn noted that Cora is already in training to go along on the walks, and folks can expect to see the “camel train” soon. Motorists are reminded to slow down as they pass by.
