Salute an Oregon farm-to-child supporter

SALEM – The Oregon Department of Education is ready to award the growers, educators, food service professionals, and advocates who bring innovation and dedication to connecting children with Oregon-grown food.

The Oregon Harvest for Schools Awards are a chance to recognize the people behind the movement that is enriching student education while strengthening local food systems. The awards are intended to salute their vision  and commitment to connecting kids with healthy meals, meaningful food education, and a deeper connection to the land and the people who work that land to bring them nourishment.

There are five categories for the awards. The School Garden Coordinator of the Year is for someone who makes a big impact in their garden. The Nutrition Service Professional of the Year is the nutrition service director, kitchen manager, or frontline person who is a big supporter of farm to school. The Oregon Food Producer of the Year is for the farmer, rancher, grower, fisher, or food producer that has shown the biggest impact and dedication to Oregon farm to school. The Community Partner of the Year can be a nonprofit organization or volunteer who best demonstrates collaboration, equity, sustainability and dedication either regionally or statewide. The School Garden of the Year is the best at demonstrating innovation and engaging children in learning about Oregon food and agriculture.
