MORROW COUNTY – Morrow County School District high school students got a hands-on chance to explore technology careers this week. The half-day event was held at the Blue Mountain Community College Workforce Training Center in Boardman, sponsored by Amazon.

The goal of the event was to give students practical skills and a clearer picture of tech job opportunities that are available locally. Among the professionals offering advice were several Amazon Web Services employees who graduated form area high schools and now work in the region.

The students went through mock interviews with AWS professionals. They underwent electrical systems training with circuit-building exercises, and learned about data center technician work including server hardware operations.

“This program bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world technical careers,” Amazon Community Engagement Manager Benjamin Harvey said. “Students leave with practical skills and a clearer understanding of the career opportunities available right here in their community through Amazon and Blue Mountain Community College.”

Riverside Jr./Sr. High School Counselor Elizabeth Rosen called it an amazing opportunity for her students.

“This helped them be more aware of local opportunities for after high school graduation and the support they have from the community,” she said.
