SALEM – On the last day of the 2026 Oregon Legislature Session, House bill 4153-A passed the Senate 21 to 8. It had already passed in the House of Representatives 40-14. The bill ensures that family farms, farm stands, U-picks, and flower fields across Oregon can continue offering local agricultural experiences to their communities.
The bill’s goal was to circumvent red tape that could prevent farmers operating farm stands from selling anything that was not grown by them. It gives counties the right to grant farm-store status to such operations.
Sen. David Brock Smith (R-Port Orford) was a chief sponsor in the bill.
“Even the very smallest farms now have a clear path to a farm stand or a farm store permit, ensuring they can continue connecting with our community while staying in business,” he said.
Sponsors of the bill also included Rep. Mark Owens (R-Crane) and Sen. Todd Nash (R-Enterprise. It now awaits the signature of Gov. Tina Kotek.
