PENDLETON – Work is ongoing putting up the new horse stalls at the Blue Mountain Equine Center, and the plan is to have them ready for the Central Washington Quarter Horse Association event on March 28.
Pat Beard, manager of the Blue Mountain Equine Center, said the stalls provide a new revenue stream and expand the types of events the facility can host. The stalls were a requirement to host the Central Washington Quarter Horse Association event. Beard noted that national qualifiers for ranch sorting and mounted shooting scheduled this year also wouldn’t be possible without the addition.
“High-end shows, quarter-horse shows, cuttings, barrel racings — if it’s a multi-day event there’s got to be boarding facilities for those horses,” Beard said.
The stalls will also be made available to competitors for the Pendleton Round-Up
Rental fees are set at $40 per day. With 145 stalls available, a full house would generate an additional $5,800 per night. Beard said that’s significant, noting the maximum daily rental for the entire Equine Center is $1,000.
“All of a sudden no were able to generate $10,000 to $15,000 for a multi-day event,” he added.
Beard confirmed the stalls were purchased from Top Notch Feed and Fence Supply of Payette, Idaho, while Blue Mountain Community College President Mark Browning said they were purchased as part of the original building project.
