THE DALLES – An Oregon State Police Fish and Game K-9 unit and two commercial vehicles collided on an Interstate 84 overpass Monday, injuring three people and forcing a lengthy closure of a key Columbia River crossing route.
The crash occurred at the Exit 87 overpass, where U.S. 197 crosses the interstate toward The Dalles Bridge. A post on The Dalles Police Facebook showed all three vehicles with heavy damage and debris scattered across the roadway.
Two state troopers were transported to Portland-area hospitals, where they were reported in stable condition. The driver of one of the commercial vehicles was also injured and taken to a medical facility. The fish and game K-9 involved in the crash was not injured, police said.
Northbound traffic was diverted onto U.S. 30, while motorists traveling south from Washington were forced to detour to Hood River or Biggs Junction to cross the river.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
