PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council is meeting at 7 p.m. tonight. There are four public hearings on the agenda and one of them is approving a levy for Pendleton Fire & Ambulance be put on the May ballot.

Earlier this month, Fire Chief Tony Pierotti requested a ballot measure that would run for five years at a rate of $1.29 per $1,000 of assessed value. He feels it is necessary that the department has had a 64 percent increase in service since 2018. The dramatic increase has resulted in overtime, more wear and tear on equipment, and depletion of other resources.

The levy would raise $1.62 million annually. Pierotti said that would enable the department to hire personnel, add needed equipment, and establish new services. It would also fund grant writing services, efficiency evaluations, and fire prevention programs.

The meeting is in council chambers of Pendleton City Hall. You can also join the meeting via Teams HERE.
