Man found guilty of neglecting horses in Grant County sentenced to jail, probation

CANYON CITY – A man responsible for neglecting two horses will spend time in jail and on probation. Grant County Circuit Court documents show that Saul Scott, 25, was found guilty by a jury on two counts of Animal Neglect in the Second Degree, committed on or about October 4th, 2025.

A release issued by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in October 2025, stated, “On Saturday [October] 4th, a report of abandoned horses in the Middle Fork area was received. Two horses were rescued by Silent Wave [Horse Rescue] and treated by a veterinarian…”

Saul Scott was sentenced to a total of 20 days in jail, placed on Bench Probation for 18 months with conditions to include completion of 40 hours of community service and the prohibition of owning a horse or any domestic animal for a period of five years. The guilty verdict was entered on January 27th.
