VALE — Malheur County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) was notified of a situation involving a Vale High School teacher reportedly contacting a minor student. Travis Johnson)-On the morning on January 23, 2026, the Malheur County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) was notified of a situation involving a Vale High School teacher reportedly contacting a minor student. MCSO deputies immediately initiated an investigation into the allegations.
The investigation led to the arrest of Nick Andrew Maag, a 40-year-old resident of Vale, Oregon. Maag was taken into custody on Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 8:36p.m. on school property.
Maag was subsequently booked into the Malheur County Jail on charges of Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree (ORS 163.433) and Luring a Minor (ORS 167.057). Maag was arraigned on Monday, January 26, 2026, where he was remanded to jail with security set at $50,000.
The investigation remains ongoing as MCSO works to determine if there are additional victims. Maag served as a substitute teacher during the 2023-2024 school year and was a full-time teacher at Vale High School for the 2025-2026 school year.
