HERMISTON – The shooting that left 18-year-old Cristian Lucas Juan De Dios fatally wounded on Jan. 9 is now in the hands of the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office. Five have been arrested. Four of them are younger than 18.

“Now it’s in the process of making appropriate charging decisions for those that are responsible,” District Attorney Dan Primus said. “Some are adults and some are juvenile – and when I say adult, I’m talking 18 and 19.”

Primus called the tragedy an isolated incident and praised the city of Hermiston and its police department.

“The city of Hermiston and its agency poured a lot into this investigation,” he said.

He added that HPD also had the support of its peers throughout the region who responded to help.

“The years of experience that others bring to the table really helps,” he said.
