PENDLETON – The Eastern Oregon Cancer Center (EOCC) in Pendleton announced it was closing in January and closed its doors in February. Now, Pendleton Economic Development Director Steve Chrisman says the center will reopen in February 2026.
Chrisman said a couple from southern California had bought the facility, which has the only radiation vault in Eastern Oregon. He said that’s good news for those battling cancer throughout the whole region.
“To have to drive all the way up to Washington if you’re living in John Day or Heppner or wherever is really a burden on them and their families,” he said.
The service area for the center includes Baker City, Joseph, Heppner, Irrigon, Dale, Monument and the unincorporated areas in between.
The original owners of the cancer center said they had to close due to increased expenses and low reimbursement rates from the Oregon Health Plan and Medicare.
