WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools celebrated Taste Washington Day this
week, focusing on farm-to-school connections and showcasing Washington-grown
foods.
Nutrition Services Director Kara Carlson said students and staff enjoyed samples.
“Local salmon caught by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe off the coast, and some wheat
from Tortilla Con Madre, which is grown right here in Washington, and then some
cabbage from Welcome Table Farms in Walla Walla,” she listed.
Adding to Wednesday’s celebration, Walla Walla Public Schools has received a $44,000
Washington Farm to School grant. These funds will be used over the next two years to
buy more local foods and support partnerships with local farms.
