UMATILLA โ A prospective petition has been filed with the city of Umatilla to recall Mayor Caden Sipe. The prospective petition was filed on July 9, and petitioners have 90 days to collect the required amount of signatures in order to trigger a recall election.
The chief petitioner is Tracy Finck of Umatilla who said as of Monday afternoon they had 130 signatures collected.
โAs the Mayor, you shouldnโt sue the town or city council. As the Mayor, you should be able to work with the people of our town. Umatilla is the town he (Sipe) grew up in, be proud and work with the people who elected you not against them. Umatilla doesnโt or shouldnโt be in the news for being sued by the Mayor,โ the recall petition statement reads.
Umatilla County Elections and Records Supervisor Stephen Craigen says 163 verified signatures from Umatilla residents will be required. Per the stateโs recall petition process that number is 15 percent of the votes cast for governor in the city of Umatilla during the last gubernatorial election in 2022. If the appropriate number of signatures is collected the Umatilla city recorder would then send the petition to the county elections office for signature verification
If the proper number of signatures are collected and verified, Sipe would then have five days to submit a โStatement of Justificationโ which would be printed on the recall election ballot along with the recall statement. A recall election would then be held no more than 35 days after the end of the five-day period.
