JOHN DAY – Today (Thursday) is the Grant County Fairโ€™s salute to veterans and first responders, who get in the gates free for the day. Grant County Fair Board Chair Donna Palmer was recently on KJDYโ€™s Coffee Time and noted that today is also a big day for the youth who are showing their animals:

โ€œItโ€™s a great opportunity for the kids to come together to show how hard theyโ€™ve worked with their animals. They are all looking forward to showingโ€”showing their families, their grandparents, their aunts and uncles, and one another, what theyโ€™ve done with their animals and their projects throughout the year.

I think itโ€™s just going to be a great fair for all the kids to come together, all the families to come together; and thatโ€™s what Grant County is all aboutโ€”all of us coming together for the purpose of the kids.โ€

Livestock market events take place today, and showmanship events will happen Friday. The Grant County Youth Livestock Auction will be Saturday in the Heritage Barn beginning at 4 p.m.
