WSP and WWCC host advanced commercial vehicle crash investigation course

WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is working with the Washington State Patrol (WSP) to offer advanced training for law enforcement officers through a post-collision investigation course.

This course takes place at WWCC’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training facility and uses the college’s trucks and equipment for hands-on training. Officers from WSP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau will conduct detailed investigations using WWCC’s vehicles to simulate crash scenarios.

“This course will teach participants how to conduct a complete forensic examination of commercial motor vehicles involved in a crash, identify causal factors that contributed to the crash, and assist reconstructionists and prosecutors more thoroughly in criminal cases,” WSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Paul Austin said.

The course includes classroom instruction and practical exercises in evidence collection, identifying violations, and documenting findings in reports. The goal is to improve investigations of serious commercial vehicle crashes and support legal processes.
