HUNTINGTON- **Please note that updates are being added to the top of this thread as we receive them.
Update as of July 17: This fire has been marked as fully contained at 851 acres accroding to WildCad.
Update as of 9:30pm, July 15: From Vale BLM
The Daybreak Fire is now 40 percent contained at 500-550 acres.
A tractor was the cause of the fire, the investigation is ongoing.
Our immediate response upon arrival was to help the RFPAs and RFDs with structure protection.
Several power poles were damaged and quite a bit of wood fence burned, but no dwellings or other buildings were impacted by the fire. Values in addition to ranching include recreation, mining and big game hunting.
Winds peaked at 20 mph. It’s still an active fire, backing north/northwest into the Hibbard Creek drainage and steeper terrain. Northerly and southerly progression was halted with aviation support.
Four engines, one dozer, one battalion, and one Type 2 handcrew will stay on scene overnight, along with partner agencies’ personnel.

Update as of 4:46pm: According to Vale BLM, acreage has been updated to 300 acres. First round of aircraft loaded and returned. A second group from Burns and Central Oregon are now on scene.
Update as of 4:18pm: According to Vale BLM, Burnt River and Vale RFPAs assisting.
Update: as of 4:13pm: According to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Resources are being dispatched to the Daybreak Fire, which was reported at approximately 2:56 p.m. Personnel from BLM, Huntington Rural Fire, Burnt River RFPA and the Baker County Sheriffโs Office are on scene.
Snake River Road is closed between Richland and Huntington.
Update as of 3:57pm: According to Vale BLM, 2 primary residence and multiple non-dwelling structures threatened. Fire is in grass on both sides of Snake River Road. Wind is pushing it all downhill at present.

Update as of 3:50pm: Engines are currently doing structure protection. Six additional SEAT’s and 2 LAT’s have been ordered.
July 15, 2025 at 3:40pm: The Baker County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has confirmed a wildfire, the DayBreak Fire, outside of Huntington. Multiple agencies are responding according to Vale District Bureau of Land Management. BLM says the initial acreage estimate.
