UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Board of Commissioners has set the temporary burn ban to begin at noon July 1. Many fire districts have already begun burn bans. This ban, which includes agricultural burning, is for those unincorporated areas that are under county jurisdiction.

It does not apply to the unincorporated areas that are protected by a rural fire protection district. It also does not apply to lands under the jurisdiction of the state or the U.S. Government. It also does not apply to Harris Park, which follows the restrictions and guidelines of the Oregon Department of Forestry.

Burn bans are common at this time of year due to dry conditions, air quality impacts from wildfires, and regulated haze-reduction days for community events such as the Umatilla County Fair and the Pendleton Round-Up.

For more information about the ban or to report illegal burning, contact the Umatilla County Community Development Department at 541-278-6252 during regular business hours. After 5 p.m. and on weekends, contact Umatilla County Dispatch at 541-966-3651.
