Celebrating Life

June Marie Shira, 90, of LaGrande, Oregon, passed away on May 27, 2025, at Bullock’s Country Care in La Grande, Oregon. A graveside service to honor June’s life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City, Oregon. A reception will follow at Coles Tribute Center, 1950 Place St., Baker City. June was born on November 28, 1934, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to Clarence James Clark and Sarah Marie (Morgan) Clark. In the spring of 1956, while living in Philadelphia, she met the love of her life, Tom Shira. The two married and shared forty-five wonderful years together. During that time, they built a loving family, raising four children: daughters Kathy, Karlyn, and Kerri, and son Kirk. Tom sadly passed away in September of 2001. In her early thirties, June began a dedicated career with the United States Forest Service in Business Management. She worked there for twenty-two years, retiring in 1996. June found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, working on crossword puzzles, indulging in her fondness for shoe shopping, as well as being a devoted member of the St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. June is survived by her four children, Kirk Shira of Baker City, Oregon, Kathy Hatley of La Grande, Oregon, Karlyn Schindel of Boise, Idaho, and Kerri McCowan of Cove, Oregon, along with eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tom Shira, her parents Sarah and Clarence Clark, and her five siblings.
