BAKER COUNTY  (Press Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office)

On March 29, 2025, at approximately 10:52 p.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a family stranded on Deems Loop. The reporting party walked nearly five miles in an effort to reach cell service and was able to provide location coordinates to the dispatcher.

Deputy Hansen and U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer Betts located the reporting party, identified as Micah Blank of Baker City, on Highway 7 near Social Security Point. Blank and his family had taken their Geo Tracker, outfitted with tracks, to Deems Loop earlier that day. The vehicle experienced a mechanical issue ultimately leaving it inoperable. Blank’s wife and small child stayed with the vehicle, while he went in search of cell service.

Sheriff Travis Ash activated the Baker County Search and Rescue Team. Four SAR members responded with tracked side-by-sides. They traveled approximately five miles on Deems Loop where they reached the remaining family members.

Baker County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Baker County Search and Rescue and the U.S. Forest Service for their assistance.
