Baker City Shooting Suspect, Caleb Mansuetti has a prior gun-related arrest

BAKER CITY – 23-year-old Caleb James Mansuetti of Baker City has been charged with Murder in the Second Degree, Menacing, and more, see a full list of charges below, stemming from the fatal shooting of Brandon Chase late last week.  This is not the first weapon-related arrest for Mansuetti.  In July 2021, Mansuetti, who was 19 at the time, was arrested after a road rage incident where he was driving and reportedly pointed a 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun at a Baker City resident and his family before speeding off, driving recklessly away from the area.  Information on that incident and arrest can be found at https://elkhornmediagroup.com/man-arrested-for-multiple-counts-involving-a-firearm/

Mansuetti was arraigned yesterday, March 25, 2025, on the current charges,  He will have a bond hearing today at 4:00 pm

Update: BREAKING NEWS (Release from the Baker County Major Crimes Team)

On March 24, 2025, Caleb James Mansuetti (23 yoa) of Baker City was arrested by the Baker County Major Crime Team and charged with Murder in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon (x2), Pointing a Firearm at Another, Menacing, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Mansuetti was lodged in the Baker County Jail. The charges stemmed from the fatal shooting of Brandon Chase.

On March 20th at approximately 9:07 p.m., the Baker City Police Department responded to a report of a male that sustained a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, Brandon Allen Chase (35 yoa) of Baker City was located in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Pioneer Ambulance transported Chase to Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City. He was later flown to a regional hospital where he died from his injuries.

The Major Crime Team, consisting of the Baker City Police Department, Oregon State Police and Baker County Sheriff’s Office, was activated and conducted the investigation.

Previous: BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker City Police Department) During the evening hours of March 20th, Baker County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a male sustained a gunshot wound. Upon law enforcement arrival, the victim was located in his vehicle on Ohio Street. Pioneer Ambulance transported the victim to the hospital, where he was ultimately flown to a regional medical center.

Baker City Police Department, along with the Baker County Major Crimes Team, is actively conducting a criminal investigation into this matter.
