Don’t fall for scams requesting gift cards for payment

BAKER COUNTY – (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) Baker County Dispatch has received calls this holiday season from citizens reporting “gift card” scams.

Callers have reported that the scammers typically tell them that the caller owes them money, is past due on payments or failed to show up for a court date. They explain that the caller can take care of this issue by purchasing gift cards and then give them the card number and PIN.

This is ALWAYS a SCAM. Reputable companies or law enforcement agencies will never ask you for payment via gift card. Just hang up!
