WESTON – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office confirms it has an active investigation that began in late October involving possible theft. The investigation was reported by officials from the city of Weston.
In several meetings the city council has discussed the possibility of bookkeeping issues, but has not specified those errors or when they were committed. UCSO Capt. Sterrin Ward says because the investigation is still ongoing, the sheriff’s office will not release any information until it’s completed.
We asked Ward what will happen next.
“We are in the fact-finding portion of the investigation,” she stated. “Depending on where the investigation leads and responses from all parties involved, it could be referred to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office as criminal, or it could be closed out as an informational case only.”
Ward said the investigators have been in touch with Weston city officials throughout the investigation.
