Union County Sheriff’s Office warns of deputy impersonation scam

UNION COUNTY – The Union County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) recently made a social media post warning the public that someone has been making scam calls and impersonating a UCSO deputy.
The UCSO reminds everyone that law enforcement will never ask for money or inform you over the phone that you have a warrant out for your arrest. The public are reminded to never give away money or financial details to strangers over the phone. If you are unsure if the caller is legitimate, ask questions and make them confirm their identity. It is better to argue than to be scammed. Hanging up and calling Union County Law enforcement yourself to confirm if the call is legit is also an option.
The UCSO also warns that scams tend to increase around the holiday season. Residents with elderly family members or neighbors are asked to warn them about the scam going around.
