BAKER CITY — (Release from the Baker City Police Department) The Baker City Police Department is pleased to announce the return of the highly regarded Shop with a Cop program. This year’s event will be held on December 13, 2024, and will include law enforcement professionals from Baker City Police Department, Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Corrections, and Oregon State Police. Shop with a Cop is a nationally recognized program, which provides an opportunity for law enforcement officers to engage young people in a positive environment and helps build relationships with community members.

Locally, this program pairs youth, grades 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, with a law enforcement officer while the child shops for Christmas gifts for their family. The hope is that this experience of shopping for Christmas gifts with law enforcement officers will instill a positive experience in each child, which they will carry into their adolescence and adulthood.  Children are chosen in cooperation with our school resource officers, counselors and teachers at the elementary institutions within the public schools in Baker County.

This program is supported entirely by donations from law enforcement and community members. Local law enforcement is currently seeking monetary donations to support this program and ensure a successful event for our youth. If you would like to donate to this valuable program, please contact Sergeant Wayne Chastain at the Baker City Police Department, 541-524-2014 ext. 604.
