At approximately 12:00 AM, on December 8, 2024, Ontario Fire and Rescue and Treasure Valley Paramedics were dispatched to 707 NW 4th Street for a report of a structure fire. Rescue One immediately requested a general page, ordering additional off-duty personnel. Ontario 100 (fire chief) responded and requested an engine company from Fruitland Fire Department. Rescue One arrived with a crew of three to find heavy fire coming out of the northeast corner of the residence. Rescue One’s crew made an offensive (interior) attack on the fire and established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant. Ontario Police Department responded and reported that all occupants were out of the residence. After attacking the fire from inside, Rescue One transitioned to a defensive attack (exterior) when noticing the fire had extended to the attic. Tower 199 responded with a crew of four. Fruitland Fire Department arrived soon after with engine company and support vehicle. Fire crews performed a detailed interior search to ensure no one was left inside the home. Due to metal roof overtop of shingles, crews pulled ceiling in many areas of the residence to access the attic space. 100 ordered an engine company from Payette Fire Department, which arrived some time later with a crew of three.
Crews worked for over three hours to extinguish fire that was in difficult to reach areas within the attic space. Investigation into the cause of the fire will continue in the daylight hours later this morning. Nine occupants, including some children, were displaced from the home and were given funds from our Burnout Fund to get a warm place to sleep overnight. The American Red Cross was contacted and is scheduled to meet with the family later today. There were no injuries to the occupants.
In total three engines, one ladder truck, three support/command vehicles, one ambulance, and several law enforcement vehicles responded. Fire personnel totaled seventeen; eight from Ontario Fire and Rescue.
