BAKER CITY – Baker School District Superintendent Casey Hallgarth (CH) recently spoke with Elkhorn Media Group (EMG) staff to provide an update on highlights from the district’s recent board meeting.
(EMG) Thank you for joining me, Casey. Let’s talk about some highlights from the school board meeting this week.
(CH) “Hi, Shannon.
We started the meeting by recognizing our Promise Students of the Month: Sloan Defrees from Brooklyn Primary and Jayden Whitford from Baker High School. I couldn’t be prouder to have students like these in our district family – they are making such a positive impact on the world around them already.
We also got some great reports from our association presidents, board members, and district leadership.
A highlight for me was hearing the annual report for Eagle Cap Innovative Jr/Sr High School, our alternative school for middle and high school students. The school provides lots of support and extra flexibility for students. The hybrid model using an online learning platform in conjunction with in-person morning or afternoon sessions allows students to have jobs, take other classes at Baker High School or Baker Technical Institute, graduate early, recover credits, or fit education around other challenges they may face.”
(EMG) That’s wonderful. Is there anything else that you’d like to share about the board meeting?
(CH) “We also discussed the steps we are taking this school year to develop a new Strategic Plan for the district; and I am really excited to begin the visioning process next month with input from our board, parents, students, staff, and community members.”
