JOHN DAY – Grant Union High School Student Council Vice President Taylor Gosnell was on KJDY’s Coffee Time recently to highlight the special day the school took last week to honor our local Grant County Veterans. Gosnell said Thursday, November 7th kicked off with a special breakfast for the Vets:
“After the breakfast, we started the assembly at 9 o’clock. Whichever branch [the Veterans] served in, we had our band play their song. Had them walk in to their song. And then, at the assembly, we had Mr. Traylor who did a 15-minute speech about the service; what it is, and trying to inspire some people who are thinking about going into the service.”
After that, Gosnell said everyone broke into groups with some of the Veterans speaking to the groups about their experiences.
Also, Humbolt Elementary School’s 5th and 6th graders volunteered at the local John Day Senior Center serving lunches last week.
