JOHN DAY – John Day City Manager Melissa Bethel shared some news with listeners last Thursday regarding residents’ water and sewer rates. Bethel said the $30 million wastewater treatment project will soon cause bill payers’ rates to rise sharply:
“At our Council Meeting on November 26th, we are going to have the results of our rate study.
I want to preface this by saying it’s not going to be pretty. We kind of knew that going in. If you’re interested, I would encourage everyone to show up. Don’t come with your pitchforks, come with a listening ear. I’m telling you right now, it’s going to be ugly.”
Bethel, who inherited the project earlier this year when she became City Manager, compared the project to “buying a house with no money down and no money to pay.”
