JOHN DAY – Grant County Food Pantry’s next distribution day will be Wednesday, November 20th, to get families their food ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. During the months of January through October, the regular distribution day is the fourth Wednesday of the month, but during the holidays, food gets handed out a week earlier.
Food Pantry Secretary Kris Beal, along with Treasurer Sandra Sutton, were in EMG Studios to say they need volunteer help handing out food, as well as unloading it off the truck the day before:
“[The truck] arrives at approximately one o’clock [Tuesday, the 19th]. For the next two hours we unload that food from that truck. We are always looking for more volunteers, because it is hefty work. Cases of canned food are not light…boxes of oatmeal, and boxes of this and that…”
To volunteer, call the Food Pantry at (541) 575-0299. The Grant County Food Pantry is located at 530 E Main St., Suite 9, in John Day.
