JOHN DAY – Oregon State Police Trooper Parker James, along with Grant County School Safety and Prevention Specialist Gordon Larson were on KJDY’s Coffee Time recently to discuss cyber awareness workshops that they will be bringing to local schools and communities. Trooper James briefly explained the need for the classes:
“This is the first generation of parents who are raising children who have had technology around them from the time they were born, really.
I’m not teaching parents how to be technology experts, or experts in cyber security, or anything close to that. Just the baseline on what they need. In most places, you wouldn’t send your kid to the park without some sort of supervision, so you wouldn’t send them online without supervision as well.”
The first one will be in Monument on November 13th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the high school. There will also be one held at Grant Union High School in John Day on December 5th.
