IMBLER – Since the groundbreaking on August 20, construction on Imbler’s new composite material track is almost complete. Surfacing is finished, lines are painted, lights are up, and students are already practicing. Announced at the beginning of July 2023, the new track offers students a state-of-the-art surface for practicing and, hopefully, home track meets without the risk of shin splints. Reflecting on the project’s success, Imbler Track Foundation Committee Chair Ian Gordon told Elkhorn Media Group:
“We’re really pleased with how it’s come together, and lots of people in the community are really happy that it’s happened so quickly. We’re looking forward to our track teams doing well in the spring. Our cross-country team is already practicing on it!”
However, while the main track surface is done, there’s still some work left to do and more funds that need to be raised. According to Gordon, the committee is looking to raise a further $270,000 dollars to cover the remaining equipment and material costs. These funds will cover additional field sites such as a new long jump pit, athletic equipment (hurdles, high jump and pole vault pads, etc.), new outdoor bleachers with steps and handrails, as well as a new storage building for all newly purchased equipment. Tentatively, it’s planned for the building to be built by the Imbler shop classes.
For those looking to support the project during its final stretch, another K-12 Imbler student Run-a-Thon fundraiser is planned for October 28, at 2:30 p.m. on the new track. Students will have 45 minutes to walk or run laps and community members can sponsor students by making donation pledges for each lap they complete. Alternatively, donations can be made directly to the fundraiser at the link below:
