WALLA WALLA – The city of Walla Walla has received the preliminary plans for reconstructing Poplar Street from Fifth to 14th avenues.

The project will include a single vehicle lane in each direction, a center two-way left turn lane, bike lanes and parallel parking.

The city also completed an evaluation for improvements at the intersection of Poplar and Ninth Avenue, which will involve updating the traffic signal-controlled intersection and not installing a roundabout.

Upcoming work includes in-person meetings with adjacent property owners, plus a coordination meeting with Columbia Walla Walla Railway and the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission for railroad improvements near 14th Avenue. Depending on final design, construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2026.
